When mothers speak honestly about their experiences, real understanding begins.

Thank you to the women who shared their stories with us during the Mama We See Project. 🤍
We’re just getting started.

Black women are 3.5 times more likely to die during childbirth than any other race. This stark reality is often linked to the lack of BIPOC providers, resulting in patients being dismissed, silenced, or ignored. Dr. Janell Green Smith dedicated her career to advocating for her patients, particularly Black mothers, and fighting to eliminate the fear and disparities they face. Tragically, she fell victim to the very issue she worked tirelessly to address, leaving behind a legacy that we must honor and continue to push forward. She should be alive today.

You can eat all the right foods, take every vitamin, go to every appointment… and still feel uncertain. Will my baby be okay? Will I be heard if something doesn’t feel right?

At Edith Institute, we know that for Black patients, these uncertainties are often magnified by medical bias and communication gaps. That’s why we’re here to build bridges between patients and providers and to restore what should have never been lost: trust, clarity, and care.

Pregnancy isn’t just physical, it’s emotional, cultural, and deeply personal. Your questions, fears, and instincts deserve to be met with respect. Your voice should be central… not sidelined.

Let’s mend the conversation. Let’s change the experience.

Today, we pause, not to celebrate, but to reflect.

At Edith Institute, our mission is rooted in dignity, equity, and justice for Black mothers. And on a day meant to mark independence in this country, we sit with the truth: freedom has never been fully realized for everyone. Not in 1776. Not now.

This year, that truth weighs heavier than ever.

The “Big Beautiful Bill” has passed threatening the healthcare of millions, including pregnant women and children. Immigrants are being detained without due process. Rights are being rolled back, and Black mothers are still forced to fight to be seen, heard, and cared for in systems designed to overlook them.

This country is hurting. And so are the people in it.

So today, we don’t post flags.
We mourn.
We recommit to the work.
We amplify the voices.
We grieve what’s been lost.
And we continue building the future our ancestors dreamed of… where liberation is not selective, where care is a right, and where no mother is left behind.

Independence is not a finished story.
We’re still writing it, with courage, resistance, and unshakable love for our communities.

Happy Father’s Day from Edith Institute

Today, we honor the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, and father-figures who stand in love, strength, and steady support… especially for the mothers and families we serve.

To the Black fathers who show up with tenderness, protect with wisdom, and nurture with grace, you are seen. Your presence is powerful. Your love is legacy-building.

At Edith Institute, we celebrate the quiet sacrifices and the loud laughter. The diaper changes, the bedtime stories, the prayers, the pep talks, and the protection.

Thank you for being anchors in the storm and light on the path.

Happy Father’s Day. We honor you. 💛
