Delayed cord clamping has many benefits to full term AND preterm babies.

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines cord clamping to be when the cord is clamped “more than one minute after birth or when cord pulsation has stopped.

𝙱𝚎𝚗𝚎𝚏𝚒𝚝𝚜 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝙵𝚄𝙻𝙻 𝚃𝙴𝚁𝙼 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚒𝚎𝚜
• Higher iron levels at 6 months of age
• Up to a 60% increase in red blood cells after birth
• Higher birth weight

𝙱𝚎𝚗𝚎𝚏𝚒𝚝𝚜 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝙿𝚁𝙴𝚃𝙴𝚁𝙼 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚒𝚎𝚜
• Improved transitional circulation
• Decreased need for blood transfusion
• Lower incidence of intraventricular hemorrhage

Today is infant and pregnancy loss remembrance day and like countless others, I want to reach out and send my thoughts and prayers to each of you who have had to live this tragedy.

May your children always be remembered and your love live on in their memory.

Unfortunately, this is a loss that 1/4 parents will endure. Your story is tragic, but your strength is remarkable!

You are not alone! If have ever, or do ever you find yourself in this situation, I strongly encourage you to reach out for the support you most certainly deserve. Support groups, therapy, midwives, doulas, partners ... So many want to have the opportunity to support you!
