Came across this furnace filter this week! With the weather getting cooler and most of us getting ready to turn our thermostat to “Heat” - now is the perfect time to perform one of the easiest home maintenance tasks of the fall. Regularly changing out the filter can improve airflow, improve heating/cooling, extend the lifespan of your HVAC system, and ensure higher air quality in your home. It’s been quite hot in the attics this week! 🥵 🥵 But we have been able to discover and identify several important defects while we’ve been up there sweating it out - Pictured is an improper connection for a plumbing vent. This 3” PVC to 4” Iron transition was held in place with plumbers putty in an attempt to seal any potential sewer gasses from entering the home. A proper fitting should have been a reducer with a Fernco Proflex or similar. Fairly straightforward repair 👨‍🔧.
