What's been working for me lately?
Focusing on mySelf and not worrying about anyone else.
Sounds selfish or some kind of elite ideal that only works for people without kids? I don't think so. It's made me a better human and that's what the world needs. I needed to narrow my focus because as much as I hate to admit, I had been comparing myself to so many other people. "I should be farther along" "I should be eating cleaner" "I should be going harder in my workouts or going more often" (I average about 4 workouts a week), I should I should I should. Well, at some point we have to stop "shoulding" on ourselves. Progress for most of us (human design speaking) is really slow. I was living too far in the future and not in the here and now. Shoulding on myself was leading me to put myself last and I was doing things that I did NOT enjoy. I was focused on perfectionism and not what I desired for my life.
When we rush the process we miss the foundational parts of what will ultimately lead us to manifesting our desires. It takes us a couple of years as humans to learn to walk and talk - we just don't remember who is frustrating and difficult and LONG that takes. Habit building or building systems of progress in our life takes the same kind of neurological synapse and the further we are away from the age of 25 the less neurological plasticity we have and so we have to do things over and over and over again in order for it to become the new belief, the new habit, the new way of life. The 21 days to build a habit is actually a myth and the recent science on it shows it is more like 254 days to build habits that are significant life changes.
You thinking about yourself more than anyone else is likely not a habit because you likely thought that idea before today was, well, selfish.
My journal entry today is something I felt like sharing, as it provides context to this thought: "Give yourself a fu***ng break. You expect results too soon. Celebrate the discovery and awareness that you have, that you deserve better than what you've been told or conditioned to believe. You don't have to BE BETTER; you just need to be YOURSELF. The goal isn't to be better or to change; there's no need to be different. Understand and realize that the more you accept yourself, the more powerful you become. The only person you're comparing yourself to is who you were yesterday. What matters is how you feel, not the results. There is no need to perform for anyone; the life you were meant to live is for you and no one else."
