I've been struggling with this all day... After two rough weeks in the ICU, Dan Biggs left this world Monday December 9th.

All of our love and prayers go out to the Biggs family.

Dan was much better with words than I am, so it's hard to find the right ones.... All who knew Dan and were frequent patrons knew this was a special time of year for us. The day after Thanksgiving the pathetic little plastic tree, with half its branches missing or bent, would go up and the iconic orange iMac would be placed under it. Everyday, several times a day, through Christmas that little orange iMac would play Dan's favorite Christmas movie: "It's A Wonderful Life". He and I could recite the entire movie and mimic all the voices and we did so all-day-long. It was our game. Dan's favorite character to mimic was Old Man Potter, the crusty little curmudgeon from Bedford Falls. Go figure. "Sentimental hogwash!" Was shouted every day... several times a day, sometimes to customers, to get a chuckle, or to an unfortunate telemarketer followed by a heavy "click" or a grumbly "...and a Happy New Year to you! In jail!"

Dan's Mr. Potter was well rehearsed and finely tuned. He might have carried the Old Man Potter persona with him throughout the year, but underneath he was George Bailey in his heart. Like George, he gave more than he was given, asked for little and inspired many.

The world feels a little smaller. What I wouldn't give to hear one last "Bahhumbug!" or some other colorful expletive.

Clarence Oddbody said it best: "Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole...."

He certainly does.
