Our alma matter. We loved Jay and his charisma.

We're saddened to learn of Professor Emeritus Jay Zumeta's passing, who taught at AAC from 1979 to 2015. He was an academic leader, professor, scholar, and profoundly impactful mentor to many. Mentoring students was his most satisfying achievement, and he found ways to encourage the immeasurable value of learning throughout his life. He’s remembered fondly by his peers, colleagues, friends, and all who knew him as supportive, humorous, and empathetic.

In 2017 Jay was honored with a Voices of Giving Award by the Greater Cincinnati Planned Giving Council for his estate gift to AAC. For that honor, he offered this summary of an experience familiar to all of us who move through this space:

“I have seen lives blossom as individuals develop their creative and artistic potential. The most important feature of an Art Academy education is that it enhances creative thinking and effective problem solving. This helps in dealing with any of life’s challenges. My view has been and continues to be that magic happens here.”

We're so grateful to have been a part of Jay's remarkable life story, the impact of which has been felt by many of us. We send our heartfelt condolences to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
