Thank you to Silverfern for hosting us today! The topic? Global Food insecurity in seniors and how we can all make a difference in making the world a better place simply by having a positive impact in our neighborhoods. Here are some facts:

Older adults are often overlooked in hunger programs, even though millions of seniors worldwide face food insecurity due to limited income, rising living costs, and reduced access to nutritious food.

Food insecurity significantly impacts senior health, increasing the risk of malnutrition, weakened immune systems, chronic disease complications, frailty, falls, and hospitalization.

The global population is aging rapidly, with the number of people aged 60 and older expected to more than double by 2050, making senior food security an increasingly urgent issue.

Social isolation and mobility challenges contribute to hunger, as many older adults struggle with transportation, grocery shopping, meal preparation, or access to community resources.

Addressing senior food insecurity improves quality of life and reduces healthcare costs, as access to nutritious food helps older adults remain healthier, more independent, and engaged in their communities.
