The Old Fashioned cocktail is arguably the most recognized and beloved drink today, but do you know where it originated?

Ordering an “old fashioned” cocktail in the 1800s originally referred to a style of mixology- patrons would ask for bitters, water and sugar with their spirit of choice.

It is rumored to have originated in Louisville, KY at a social club named Pendennis Club. James E. Pepper, a bartender and bourbon aficionado, brought the idea from NYC, so some argue it’s origin.

Regardless, bars around the U.S. serve the drink and its many varieties today!

Have you ever wondered about the origin of the Negroni?

In 1919, sitting in a cafe in Florence, Count Camillo Negroni ordered an Americano (Campari, sweet vermouth, topped with soda water) with gin instead of soda water to strengthen his drink. The bartender garnished with an orange slice instead of lemon to differentiate the two.

It became so popular, the Negroni family founded Negroni Distillerie then batched and sold the cocktail.

In the U.S. Negronis were a quiet classic until the 2000’s, the Campari brand naming 2011 the Year of the Negroni after hosting numerous conventions and celebrations.

Its simple recipe has left room for variation and almost every bar in the U.S. offers the cocktail and its variants!
