Cedar over copper

When the micro burst that stuck Cleveland Heights this fall.
Trees were uprooted, power lines were knocked down, and roofs were damaged.
Here’s a customer who’s roof took a hit from a limb of a tree. The force even cracked a 2x6 rafter. So the crew, replaced the rafter (top to bottom), The decking and plywood (partial) and the shingles (front side)
The chimneys were flashed in copper.

This is a copper flashing job on a green slate roof.
A before and after picture of the chimney.
The guys removed the surrounding slates and the “baby tins” from sides of the chimney (in the process braking the inevitable 30% of the slates) and then to wrap all sides with ice guard and install the new reclaimed slates and new 16 oz. copper.
Kudos to the guys for enduring an extreme down pour of rain, not complaining at all; only to request hot coffee. “I got the coffee guys, hang tight”

This is a before and after picture of a roof that was a 3 layer tear-off/re-sheath.
The cat walks and the returns are focal points of this house.
The details required due diligence from Adam the installer and his crew.
There were added surprises too: the rafter ends were a light weight (1x construction) so they were not holding the adjacent components well and the soffits and the fascia needed to be replaced. We added a strap hung gutter (lower front) that wasn’t present prior to us and by using over-sized downspouts on the lower gutters the additional volume of H2O gets drained adequately. Thanks to our very accommodating customer Carrie for hiring us for this project.

Leaving nothing to chance:
This chimney is built as a taper and by the time it was built and the custom chimney cover order was made; all the scaffolding was removed (our masons had set up on another chimney demo/rebuild).
It leaves one option in this case: a walk board and a ladder and a ladder up to the crown wash. Santa’s helper: “up on the roof tops” and chimneys. Brian had installed a 16”x16” flu liner (mixed in with some 12”x12”s as well as some 8”x12s. As for me on the crown wash; the 16” was nice to anchor safely while working.
And thank you Johnny, Dennis, and Will for handing everything up from the ground.
