This is more of an educational question/thought about devices in schools. What are the opinions of those here on tech in classrooms/life?
This mom has an engaging point. Thoughts?

Another famous person sharing about their dyslexia. Your child is not broken; they need more time and work! Dyslexic students often need more repetitions than neurotypical learners (the rest of us) think is necessary. They aren't being lazy; they need more input.
Tom Holland: Spider-Man star praised for honesty about dyslexia The actor has revealed he turned down presenting Saturday Night Live out of fear of cue cards changing.

I have had the privilege of helping a student get to grade level in reading, in less than a year. She started with me in Nov. 2024; last spring, on this day, she was learning to summarize passages. One year later, she has completed an IEW course with me. In preparation for a timed writing assignment next week, she did an outline on a prompt and wrote a paragraph in 10 minutes.
Not only that, for those familiar with IEW, I didn't require dress ups for this, but she put them in!
This child is now set up for success!

I tell some of my current students, especially those with big imaginations, "I can't wait to see what you grow up to write one day." I truly believe through the fire of struggle, these minds are being shaped, and with remediation will one day rival their peers. We read Henry Winkler and Patricia Polacco books so they can see others have struggled before them.
Don't give up mamas. It will be ok.
There is help.
There is hope.
She sat in the "slow reader" group, convinced she'd never be good enough. Nobody knew she was about to change millions of childhoods forever.

I like to give hope to parents of struggling readers and this talk shared today at the Close the Reading Gap summit is on point.
Given by a favorite teacher of mine, Andrew Pudewa, who in his own words, says he had the "most dyslexic of dyslexic of students" that he had ever seen in his teaching career-- his son. He shares his story of hope and I grabbed onto this quote:
"There are many successful adults who did not read until they were teenagers. Early reading is not a prediction of academic success... [continue to] build the language database."
Now, I say that as I 100% believe in early intervention, but sometimes kids' brains work on their own accord.
So, it's ok if your child is struggling (or you as an adult), continue to listen to well written audiobooks and continue to hone your reading and writing.
It's never too late to learn! And DON'T GIVE UP!

Day 6 - Close The Reading Gap Summit Andrew Pudewa, founder of the Institute for Excellence in Writing, homeschooled his seven children and describes his son as "the most dyslexic person" he had ever met (in all his years of teaching). He tells how his son didn't learn to read until he was 12 and the methods he used to help his son bec...
