📚❤️ Community, literacy, and love in action!
The Safety Town event hosted by Strong Hands United was truly a success once again. We were honored to be part of a day filled with learning, connection, and community engagement. Families received books to take home, enjoyed healthy snacks, and shared wonderful conversations about the books they’ve read and the importance of reading with our children.
Moments like these remind us that building a culture of literacy doesn’t happen in isolation—it takes a village of caring organizations, businesses, volunteers, parents, and community members working together to make reading visible, valued, and celebrated.
A heartfelt THANK YOU to Strong Hands United for inviting ABC READ to partner with you once again. Your commitment to strengthening our community and supporting families is making a lasting impact.

📚✨ While school may be out for the summer, learning doesn’t have to take a vacation!
There is something incredibly comforting about knowing our children are spending their summer engaged in enriching literacy experiences that spark imagination, build confidence, and make reading fun.
This week, the youth at Horizon Child Care Center enjoyed an interactive read aloud of A Bad Case of Stripes. After the story, they unleashed their creativity through a coloring activity where they designed their own unique faces, celebrating what makes each of them special. The students then boldly shared affirmations aloud, speaking life into themselves and embracing their individuality. To top it all off, we wrapped up the day with an exciting Jeopardy-style game that had everyone learning, laughing, and participating.
This is what beating the summer slide looks like.
It looks like children gathering in a healthy, positive space where reading is celebrated, literacy is engaging, and learning is normalized. It looks like building confident readers while creating joyful memories that will last long after summer ends.
The partnership between ABC READ, Reading Is Freedom, and Horizon Child Care Center is truly one of the best collaborations to ever take place. Together, we’re ensuring that our youth continue growing academically, socially, and emotionally all summer long.
