Red Clay served as the seat of Cherokee government from 1832 until their forced removal in 1838. There is also a natural landmark known as blue hole spring.

We are SO, SO excited to have this design by Brook from Withers Design printed!

We will post once we get the items in!

A new artwork for Red Clay State Historic Park and let me tell you, it pushed me. What an honor to do a piece for this park!

I could tell quickly during my first call with Ranger Taylor at Red Clay a few things:
1.) The land here has great spiritual significance to the Cherokee. Everything has meaning beyond the surface level.
2.) The rangers and staff at this park are passionate about all the details that make Red Clay unique and important. What a gift these people are to our state parks! (Each of you that I’ve worked with across the parks—I’m talking to you!)
3.) It’s going to be hard to draw the Blue Hole. And it was.

I had a check in my artist heart after sending my first piece in that it wasn’t quite right. Attempt 2 was closer. And here you see Attempt 3, the final piece, full of details highlighting the significance of the Blue Hole Spring for the Cherokee and this park. It’s special to me because I get to draw such things but also because it’s a reminder that I won’t always get it right and I’m so thankful the team at Red Clay could speak into this piece and help get it where it was supposed to go: slightly eerie, a little esoteric, and fully unique.

We would like to thank the Tennessee State Museum for funding several improvements at Red Clay!

New improvements include the beautiful, safe stairs seen in the picture, new energy efficient insulation in our attic, and new lighting in the museum/gift shop area!

These projects were supported in part by the Tennessee State Museum and the State of Tennessee.
