More thunderstorms last night, one about 11:00 pm and another about 6:00 am. About 1.5 inches of rain and it caused some gullies in the road and put some water in the stock tank. BUT the interesting part was this morning I saw a Great Blue Heron standing in the tank. Two points: It's been 10-15 years since I have seen one on the ranch & it was BIG...largest I have ever seen anywhere. Amazing. It took flight as soon as I rolled up on Ray's Ridge well above it so I had a great view as it gained air. NOT my photo but exactly what I saw....

Working on removing some BIG dead cedar trees for past few weeks. Got the two very large ones marked by X this week. Burned them today.

UPDATE: We have had our first wild hogs recently. I'm on top of the mountain so a lot of rock and caliche that does not really favor hogs. But they have really wallowed and torn up the draws and any soft dirt we have along the road and trails. Not that much damage as there's not much to damage. Not a sign of them in the mountain pasture as I guess the donkey doesn't allow them over there. Still getting rain, 5" since Christmas. Tank is full. We had a bit of freezing rain first week of the year. Lost several large branches off of some really tall cedars down in what the neighbors call the feed lot. That's the lowest land with least amount of sun I have and must have had more accumulation of ice on the branches. The goats have been taking care of them. I'll clean cut them when they are finished.
