One morning this week, I woke up a little earlier than usual and made my way outside to pot a few flowers and put a couple of perennials in the dirt. The stillness made room for new ideas and different ways of thinking about ordinary things. I didn't play my usual gardening music. Quietly, I pulled a few weeds, brushed away some leaves, and planted. The sunlight glistened on the dewy grass, and I saw things I normally do not see that time of day- a couple of big fat o'possums crossed our creek and I noticed the morning sunlight pouring straight through our magnolia tree and piling on the leaves at the arched "entryway". I came back inside by way of our basement door and came up these stairs at a time of day that I never have in nineteen years. This image took my breath way. I'm a sucker for natural sunlight artwork on a wall or floor. I gasped and realized I'd been missing this beautiful spot- this view- for all these years.

That morning, I did things a little out of the ordinary. Not my usually places, not my usual things, not my usual way of seeing the world that time of day.

And there I stood with a whole new perspective. A sweet and beautiful gift.
