Having a solid friend will change your life. Someone with the guts to get you up on the high ropes course, but might need your encouragement when you get to the top. Someone who knows you’re in a pickle and says, “well, I’ve got freezer space.” And then laughs with you through a morbid experience, because, what else can you do? Someone who sends you OOTD pics and hypes up yours. Someone whose life is chaos, but still makes time for yours. Someone who makes you feel comfortable surrounded by your mess and reminds you that you’re human by sharing their mess too.

This girl has literally shown up at my house and pulled me out of my bed where I was a curled up, unresponsive pile of goo. I could have collapsed from the embarrassment, but a break away with her was all I really needed and she knew it. When one of you is down, the other gives you that extra nudge of confidence, even if it means showing up and dragging your smelly body out of bed.

And it’s not like this is new for her. Back in 2007, when we were still young and naive, I called her heartbroken and she convinced me to buy a one way ticket to Hawaii. I had a bed of my own and an apartment on the 20th floor when I arrived. It was awe striking and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

That’s real life. That’s sisterhood. And I can’t stress enough how much we need community. ❤️🥹 Thanks for all that you are, D. Your friendship means the world to me. I can’t imagine my life without you.
