This is more than a conservation mission — it’s the biggest cheetah relocation ever attempted. A groundbreaking move to save one of the world’s most threatened cheetah populations.

In April an article came out in The Daily Maverick, titled “Dead wild animals by numbers — Professional Hunters Association stats tell a grim tale” The article comes from a place and an organization – the Conservation Action Trust – that is completely anti-consumptive use. Let us be a little clearer: completely anti-the use of wildlife through hunting tourism.

Knowing the truth, we wrote a rebuttal titled: ”There will be many more dead wild animals if hunting is outlawed.”

In our rebuttal, we outline how the consumptive use of wildlife brings significant benefits to wildlife and people throughout South Africa, specifically the very rural parts of the country.

We walk through the on-the-ground reality and our personal experience while on-site in Zululand, South Africa — how rhinos are a walking example of these efforts daily and the harsh realities of what would happen to the wildlife, communities, and habitats if hunting went away.

WOW — this is truly momentous. What a great moment for conservation and hunting — to be featured in the Daily Maverick’s Sunday Paper & to be listed as the number one trending story online. We’re proud to share that The Panyame Cheetah Project — the largest single relocation of cheetahs in history — has just been featured in the Daily Maverick.

This is more than just a conservation milestone. It’s a high-stakes, cross-border mission to bring cheetahs back to Mozambique — a country where they were on the brink of disappearing. Twelve wild-born cheetahs traveled over 50 hours by plane, boat, tractor, and bakkie to reach their new home in the remote wilderness of Tete province.

What makes this even more powerful? It was entirely funded by ethical, regulated hunting — yet these cheetahs will never be hunted. This is conservation done differently: rooted in sustainability, driven by purpose, and made possible by people who believe in giving more than they take.

The Daily Maverick captured just how tough — and how vital — this journey was. We’re only at the beginning of a five-year mission to restore this incredible species to its former range.

Follow along. There’s so much more to come.
