A good friend of mine, Allison joined me in the salon studio recently as she is journeying through this pandemic with her art through photography! She wanted to capture what getting your hair done looks like during the pandemic. Lost of masks, hand washing, and temperature taking. These are things would wouldn’t have imagined a year ago. With everything that is happening in our country currently and for that matter has been happening I have taken some time to reflect on my own life and career. Discrimination due to someone’s race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation is not something I want any part of. As I have contemplated how I personally can be more inclusive, I started to realize I have no training in cutting naturally beautiful textured hair, specifically of those in our black communities. I reached out to owner Q, because she is a master, and asked if she would be willing to teach me the basics. She invited me into her salon space and gave me a one on one hands on class. Q is such a genuine person and created such an incredible space for me learn in. I was so thankful to learn what she taught, and I’m looking forward to building those skills. I want my chair to be a place where anyone can come sit, get a fresh haircut, enjoysome laughs, and leave feeling refreshed and beautiful! Thank you Q for the amazing class! I’m trying my best to do my part!
