Supporting a loved one who discloses sexual assault can be challenging. Remember, trauma affects memory, and survivors may struggle to recall or accurately recount their experiences. Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia ( ). Abusers may choose to take advantage of societal stigma in order to hurt LGBTQ+ partners in specific ways, like threatening to out them, denying them access to gender-affirming medical care, or telling them that the abuse doesn't "count."
