Supporting a loved one who discloses sexual assault can be challenging. Remember, trauma affects memory, and survivors may struggle to recall or accurately recount their experiences. This is normal and part of the brain's protective response during trauma. Avoid rushing them or asking intrusive questions. Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia ( ). Abusers may choose to take advantage of societal stigma in order to hurt LGBTQ+ partners in specific ways, like threatening to out them, denying them access to gender-affirming medical care, or telling them that the abuse doesn't "count."

This is unacceptable, and these abusers are only emboldened by harmful legislation in many states. Survivors in the LGBTQ+ community deserve to be safe and have access to respectful, affirming care. 🏳️‍🌈💜 RT if you agree!
