: Protests for Cyrus Carmack-Belton are happening in Columbia, SC today.
Members of the Black Panther party rallied outside the gas station where Cyrus was shot and killed to protest before meeting other protestors at the South Carolina Statehouse.
Last week, a jury found Rick Chow, a former Columbia-area gas station owner, not guilty in the shooting death of 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton in May 2023.
The decision came after over eight hours of deliberation on Monday, including instances in which the jury asked for instructions to be clarified to them.
In the end, they handed down a unanimous “not guilty” decision nearly a week after the trial began.
