Our Story

Beautiful Historic former town Mercantile, built in 1885. Owners are Denise Hopkins and Bill Schleicher.

Bill and I stopped in one day when we saw the former owners had this beauty up for sale. Once we heard someone was interested in buying the building to tear it down for the American Chestnut wood the store was built from, our hearts sank and, we impulsively made an offer to buy the store. We have worked very hard to tear out the former remodeling of the store to try and restore it to the way it looked originally. We are still working on this process. Our primary goal is to preserve the building and we need your help. We opened the store with hopes of letting the store revenue help us in our efforts for preservation. It’s a massive undertaking but, so far, we are enjoying this ride. We hope that once we have left, the building will continue to stand for another 125+ years.

Bill is a songwriter and building designer. Together, we both enjoy singing music in our old building. The acoustics are incredible with the 17 foot ceiling and massive open space.

After a couple of years being opened as a general market, we decided to change the store to suit our love of music. We are now open a a general music venue, featuring great songwriters and entertainers. We partner with Papa Boudreaux’s Cajun Cafe & Catering for special events that include music and great Cajun food.
