Today, in coordination with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, we are conducting our annual hurricane lane reversal exercise.
This critical drill allows us to test lane reversal plans across the state's major evacuation routes. While no lanes are actually reversed during today’s exercise, this collaborative effort ensures SCDOT and SCDPS personnel are ready to manage traffic safely and smoothly in the event of a real evacuation.
We anticipate this exercise to be completed by early afternoon. If you are traveling today, you may see increased activity and flashing lights along evacuation routes. Please allow our crews the space they need to safely train.

SCDOT’s Rural Road Safety Program is working to make 1,300 miles of our roadways safer, and it has already made a major impact in our state. Since bringing these safety upgrades to our rural routes, we’ve achieved:
✅ A 30% reduction in fatal and serious injury crashes across SC
✅ A 54% reduction in run-off-road crashes involving fatal and serious injuries in SC
These milestones don’t just show the commitment of our crews to protect lives on our roads, they show our dedication to finding sensible solutions to improve your drive. 🚗
