Higher Pursuits

Greetings Paddlers,

It is the start of Fourth of July week here at Higher Pursuits. We have a hot week (literally), so I recommend that start your day early and bring lots of hydrating beverages with you. We are already sold out for Friday, July 3 so make your reservations as soon as possible for the rest of the week/weekend.

Good Morning Paddlers,

Unfortunately we will be closed again today, Friday June 26. Although our section is below our cutoff for the water level we want to give the river another day to settle. We are still concerned about the muddy conditions and the speed of the river and want to give it one more day. We apologize for the inconvenience. These decisions are always difficult and have a lot of variables that we consider.

We are watching the weather for tomorrow.

Looks like better weather is in the way next week and hopefully improved water conditions.

We will be closed today, Tuesday June 23 and Wednesday June 24.

The Duck River watershed from Shelbyville to Columbia received a substantial amount of rain. The water level on our section rose over 6 feet since noon yesterday. This does not make the river more fun or like whitewater. The river looks like chocolate milk with logs and trees floating by. There are no islands or gravel bars so if you flip your boat there is no where to recover your kayak and get back in.

This will take several days to clear out and for the river to settle back down.

The weather forecast shows a gorgeous day. Our water is low but there is a route that allows you to paddle the entire way.

We are sold out of all rentals and shuttles for personally owned boats.
