“I only write when I’m inspired.
And I see to it that I’m inspired every morning by 9 am.”

You can resist the current paradigm or you can build a new one, that, by its very nature, will decontextualize the old one and make it obsolete.

My original mission, one I shared with my late father, and many others we mentored, was to take 70% of what is in the (usual, non emergency) healthcare systems out. We intended to put those practices- back into their rightful location in boardrooms and bedrooms- …because community care is the major determinant of health.

He- we- knew it would require recovery of senses and recognizing body symptoms as wisdom guides... he chose never to fight the “healthcare system” but instead began to build a a parallel world.

But his own mentor Ivan had already shown that institutionalization itself was the issue.

It was one he couldn’t avoid in the beginning with acupuncture... but with the groundwork of “mindfulness” laid and the burgeoning recognition of interconnection maybe we can move on.

So how do we decontextualize institutions?

By building a non- institutionalized economy.

What does that mean?

It means refusing to institutionalize conflict.

It means refusing to institutionalize our bodies (or our minds, or for that matter to allow an institution to define the boundaries of those.)

It means refusing to institutionalize our business and our lives.

Not our children.
Not our marriages
Not our understanding of land and water and food.

Then what will you build?

What is the world you imagine without institution?
(may I recommend NK Jemison for some How Long ‘Till Black Future Month?)

(Do not confuse institution with structure... trees have structure... rivers have structure...
but they have proportion. They have natural scale. A redwood can grow as tall as it can grow deep... it grows strong in the middle to support this... a bush grows wide but can endure a lot of trimming.)

What world has water for everyone?

If we bring the current thinking to Mars (did you know there are whole industries cropping up around popularizing and economizing space travel? The lawyers are already divvying up “ownership) we will destroy a second planet... at minimum… and any remaining trust in each other- if you leave behind your first globe for your second without addressing the core issues you will replicate them. It will taint the foundations of new society. If there’s one thing I’ve learned unequivocally from OD it’s that an original crack in the foundation will only grow and fester with scale.

The world’s wounds must be addressed here.
Now.
By you.

Presences

11. Just like the patient always knows what’s going on, the organizational body also always knows what’s going on.

12. Endings are also beginnings.

13. The world is kind of a Montessori classroom though- life has a way of showing us until we are willing to be patient enough to notice where and how we’re rushing through and not getting the results.

14. Hurting is hurting, whether it’s frustration or desperation or an elbow bump. Be a helper where possible.

15. The hurt-er is often a hurt-ee too. You still get to choose where to focus your help.

16. Focus is crucial. Otherwise you’ll be spending your time kerfuffling over things that aren’t moving the needle on the world our children have to live in.
Tik tok y’all.

17. If you’re good at helping, train others. Focus on that- we need all hands on deck.

18. Upset is adrenalized. Some of us (many of us) are addicted. Physically. Some of us are using it as a drug to cope with another underlying grief.

19. Withdrawal- from anything accessible- requires a. A decision, b. Support, c. Recommitting moment by moment.

20. We’re all addicted to something. Please let it be something fruitful.
