The Farm Aid film crew concluded its MRCC shoot with a visit to the Howard County farm where it all began. Sitting around the kitchen table, Roger shared the story of how his family’s decision to stand their ground changed the course of history. It was here, at this farm, during the 1980s Farm Crisis, that Roger Allison’s family refused to accept an illegal foreclosure. Roger and his father stood up for due process, inspiring thousands of others to stand up for their own farms. Their fight led to a landmark legal victory that helped secure due process rights for farmers nationwide. Their court victories also laid the foundation for a massive nationwide class-action suit that halted farm foreclosures across the U.S.
The courage that grew from this farm didn’t end with that victory. It lives on in the work of MRCC, which continues to organize, advocate and stand alongside farmers every day.
