In its 175-year history, Fort Moultrie has defended Charleston Harbor twice. The first time, on June 28, 1776, during the Revolutionary War, the 30-smoothbore cannon of the original fort drove off a British fleet mounting 200 guns. Visitors can take guided tours or explore on their own, walking in the footsteps of Patriots who defended the fort in 1776, exploring cannon mounts and battery fortifications inside the fort, and walking paths outside the fort overlooking Charleston Harbor.

We enjoyed celebrating the ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday with Charleston County Public Library Director Angela Craig, Everette Platt and Rob Byko. We can't wait to see the bookmobile hit the road to share all of its wonderful books!

“Dorchester-on-the-Ashley” document was produced around 1961, and it explores the creation of Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site. The discussion about the history and preservation of the site offers a unique look at what was the third-largest village in South Carolina at the start of the American Revolution.
