Hilltop RISE is guided by a diverse and highly skilled Board of Trustees bringing deep experience in community development, finance, preservation, law, social work and senior services, construction, public service, research, and nonprofit leadership.

Our finance committee met this week to discuss fundraising efforts for the organization. The strategic insight and authentic neighborhood knowledge allows our board to do the everyday work with the staff.

Our staff recently met with Danny Jones, the owner of Westside Slice. He opened Westside Slice in January 2023 with his wife. Danny and his staff are dedicated to providing customers with the most delicious pizza around - as he said “make it the way you want to eat it.”

Danny grew up on the westside, is a graduate of Franklin Heights High School (practically across the street from Westside Slice), and lives nearby. His path to becoming a business owner was non-traditional (sometimes timing is everything in life!), and he encourages others interested in opening a business to give it a shot.

Westside Slice is located at 958 Demorest Road. Their hours are Wednesday-Friday from 4-10PM; Saturday from 2-10PM; and Sunday from 2-8PM.

Earlier this year, we featured a business spotlight of O’Brien’s Lock Services, a long-time Hilltop business. Unfortunately, they recently made the difficult decision to close their business due to family health issues. We are saddened by their closure, but we’re grateful for the many years of service they provided to the Hilltop community - O’Brien’s was in business for 62 years! We wish the family all the best in this next chapter.

Jim, the outside service technician at O’Brien’s is now working at Golden Bear Lock & Safe. He’s a life-long westsider and can be requested by name.
