Celebrating 250 Years of the United States 🇺🇸
This Independence Day, The Ohio State University Department of Dance honors 250 years of the United States—a milestone marked not only by history, but by movement, expression, and the diverse voices that shape our nation.
Dance has always been a reflection of who we are—our struggles, our triumphs, and our shared humanity. As we celebrate this historic anniversary, we recognize the power of the arts to bring people together, to tell stories that words cannot, and to imagine a more inclusive and vibrant future.
From the studio to the stage, our Buckeye dancers continue to explore what it means to move freely—creatively, culturally, and collectively.
Here’s to 250 years of expression, resilience, and the freedom to move.
✨ Happy Independence Day!

An anthology conceived and co-edited by Hilary Bergen, Eric Mullis, PhD Dance Student Benjamin Simon, and Sydney Skybetter, "Robot Theaters: Collisions in Performance and Social Robotics" has just been published by Routledge.

"The idea for this anthology on the theatrical nature of robot performance and its social implications for art, industry, and the military came about from our panel at the 2022 Dance Studies Association Conference," says Simon. "It's chock-full of accounts by practicing artists and scholars that touch on choreorobotics, critical race studies, feminist media studies, research-creation methods, and more."
