UNCHAINED
a piece about pain, grief, healing, and FAITH. This installment is meant to show people’s journeys with each of those 4 things. The reality is we have all been chained down or bound by something at one point in our lives. Each piece represents a person and the chains, rope, and indentions show an outward expression of what that pain has done to them. Over the last few months I’ve been going back to church, joined a small group, and reading my bible daily. I have found that freedom comes from faith and believing that there is a God who loves you and is there for you even at your worst. I wanted to bring part of my testimony into my ceramic practice, giving my art a purpose. I’ve been learning that religion and faith is a touchy subject in the art world and it has been scary to share this part of my life with other artists and professors. Although it was scary to share this installation and have people view the scriptures I highlighted in my bible, I believe it was the right decision. If displaying this piece leads at least one person into salvation then it will have been worth it. This process of making has allowed me to grow my own faith, heal, and learn. It has pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to make something I am truly proud of. I hope to continue making pieces to add to this installment over my last year at osu. P.S. I made the podium and display myself 🤩
