Most people never get to see where whiskey spends the majority of its life.
For me, this is just another Wednesday.
Pulling samples. Checking barrels. Solving problems. Working with partners. Making sure every barrel is exactly where it needs to be.
It’s easy to forget how unique this job is until you stop for a second and look down the aisle.
Grateful I get to call this work. 🥃

What would you put on yours?
About a year and a half ago, I had the opportunity to learn from one of the best.
I attended a Nancy Fraley blending course at Ironroot Republic Distilling through ADI. That experience challenged the way I think about whiskey, blending, maturation, and the importance of patience.
Some lessons don’t show their value immediately. They stay with you until the right opportunity comes along.
I’m grateful to Nancy for sharing her knowledge so generously, and I’m excited that she’ll be tasting a project I’ve been working on here at Middle West Spirits. Having the opportunity to continue learning from someone whose work I respect so much is something I don’t take for granted.
Time is one of the most important ingredients.

100 posts ago, CBUS Barrels was just an idea.
A used whiskey barrel, a few tools, and a belief that if I kept showing up and doing the work, something could come of it.
Today, post #100 finds me standing in Greenville, South Carolina after personally delivering one of the most meaningful builds I’ve ever completed.
What started as a side project in my garage has led to friendships, opportunities, and experiences I never could have imagined.
This weekend I had the opportunity to deliver a custom barrel cabinet to Mick Hunt, spend time with his family, and sit down as a guest on the Mick Unplugged podcast.
The cabinet was important.
The conversation was even better.
One lesson I’ve learned over these first 100 posts is that success isn’t just about what you build—it’s about the people you meet along the way.
To everyone who has followed, shared, encouraged, purchased, referred a friend, or simply believed in what we’re building, thank you.
Here’s to the next 100.

The answer:
A custom whiskey barrel cabinet and about 20 pounds of bubble wrap. 😂
