En route back to CBUS from DC, and capturing ’s reflective moment after an intense day. ✈️ Our trip may have been short, but our agenda was packed: back-to-back meetings with Ohio's senators in the Capitol. We left with a sense of accomplishment, having educated our representatives and hopeful for positive change. Brace yourselves for more behind-the-scenes from our whirlwind trip – dropping tomorrow. 📸

Today at the Ohio Advocacy Fly-In 2023, we're advancing the agenda for individuals with developmental disabilities. Here are the pressing issues we're championing:

🔹 Fair Formulas for Assistance: The outdated SSI asset limits from 1989 have been limiting the growth and potential of individuals with disabilities. It's time to update them with the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act.

🔹 Workforce: Addressing the workforce challenges, especially the dire need for direct support professionals. This isn't just about numbers but quality, fair compensation, and making DSPs a rewarding career choice.

🔹 Transportation: For many, transportation equates to independence. It's essential for work commitments, community activities, and overall inclusion.

🔹 Assistive Technology: Embracing the power of technology to reshape lives, be it communication devices or simple apps, can make a world of difference in community participation and autonomy.

What can our representatives do?

📌 Support the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act.
📌 Adhere to "Nothing for us without us". Ensure the voices of those with developmental disabilities are heard in policy discussions.
📌 Take the time to understand local challenges faced by Ohioans with disabilities. Direct communication is key.
📌 Engage with the services provided to those with developmental disabilities. Be a regular at County Board meetings.
📌 Educate yourself on the technology that aids students with developmental disabilities.
📌 Address transportation barriers in your district that limit the independence of individuals with disabilities.

The change starts with understanding, and we're here to foster that understanding. Tomorrow, we take our cause to the People's House.
