New State of Massachusetts Computer Service Tax

If you do business in the State of Massachusetts, you may be subject to an additional tax, effective July 31, 2013.

Essentially, you are looking at having to collect a 6.25% sales tax on services you provide to customers in Massachusetts. It also means that you may be subject to paying the Massachusetts corporate income tax, or personal income tax (8% and 5.25%, respectively) on the income generated on those services.

I strongly recommend that you contact your accountant to discuss the potential tax liabilities of this new law as soon as possible.
