Friends! There are several hundred ex laying hens who are up for slaughter next month that need adoption! If you are interested in adopting, please see the link and fill out the form. Update on the retired laying hen rescue effort: We are so excited and grateful for all of you who jumped on board to save these 1,200 hens through donations and adoption/volunteer applications! Hi friends, it's been a while since we've done any rescues but this evening we were contacted by a good Samaritan who found this poor baby left to die in a bin on the side of the road. She was covered in p**p, emaciated and too weak to even stand. After tube feeding her and giving her a warm bath, she unfortunately passed away an hour ago 😣😢
I post this to honor this sweet bird, because someone did not value her life and left her abandoned to die sick and alone. I hope I at least gave her a sense of safety and comfort in her last few hours of life 💜 Fly high sweet angel

Cecil's enjoying his fruit bowl! He's still getting antibiotics and his eye is stable. He is now in an outdoor coop with 2 new lady friends 🥰

As Cecil continues to improve (yay!), our disabled rooster Rudy required more attention than I thought. After x-rays, we found that he has septic arthritis in his knee joint along with an abcess 😢. Our vet suggested surgery in a few weeks to clean out the infection, but we're weighing out that option because it's very expensive. Right now we're trying antibiotics and pain meds for 2 weeks.

Luckily his wheelchair got here just in time this week, so he's trying it out at nighttime to take pressure off his joints. Please send him well wishes!

Cecil has a great prognosis, his eye has collapsed and he won't be able to see out of it again BUT the infection is fairly easy to get rid of and his doctor cleaned it out really well. I will be flushing it out once a day and giving him antibiotics for 2 weeks. Thank you everyone who donated. .. you saved him! He's on the road to recovery now🥰🥰🥰
