Most brake pads should be replaced every 25,000 to 70,000 miles, depending on how and where you drive, but it’s important to watch for warning signs. If you hear squealing or grinding noises, feel vibrations when braking, notice a soft brake pedal, or your vehicle takes longer to stop, it’s time to have your brakes inspected. You may also see a warning light on your dashboard. Visually, if the brake pads are worn down to about a quarter inch or less, they should be replaced soon. Staying on top of brake maintenance not only protects your safety but also helps prevent more costly repairs down the road.
