Tropical Storm Arthur has now officially been named, that would make it the first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.

For Southeast Texas, the primary hazards remain:

Heavy tropical rainfall across the Houston metro area and nearby coastal counties.
Flash flooding in low-lying and urban areas where rain bands repeatedly move over the same locations.
Ponding of water on roads and possible road closures.
Rising water levels in bayous, creeks, and rivers if the heaviest rain persists.

The storm's strongest impacts are expected to come from the rain rather than destructive hurricane-force winds. Even a relatively weak tropical storm can produce significant flooding when its rain bands stall or repeatedly affect the same communities.

For residents in the Houston region, it's important to:

Monitor local weather alerts and flash flood warnings.
Avoid driving through flooded roadways.
Have multiple ways to receive emergency weather information.
Be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, especially during heavier rain bands.
