Architecture & Design: Art in Residence

Go inside a semester-long creative collaboration where fine art, interior design, and spatial thinking converge. During their Spring residency at UCA, artists Jeff and Jennifer Herron led coursework, mentored students in a studio setting, and worked alongside emerging designers as ideas moved from concept to installation.

What began as classroom dialogue evolved into hands-on exploration—blending artmaking, interior design, and exhibition development—culminating in a campus installation shaped by both faculty vision and student participation.

This ADN lecture extends that experience through a panel-style conversation exploring the intersection of architecture and fine art, how those disciplines informed the residency, and the creative and educational impact on students.

Participating UCA students will join the discussion, creating a broader forum that includes both instructor and student perspectives.

Through photography, video, and behind-the-scenes documentation, the presentation offers a multimedia look at the residency, the evolving creative process, and the final exhibition.

✨SENIOR SPOTLIGHT | ADDY TAYLOR✨

About Section: Hi! My name is Addy Taylor and I am from El Dorado. I have always had a love for design growing up since my grandparents owned a construction business. I am so happy I changed my major to interior design my sophomore year because my love for design has grown so much in the last three years.

Awards, Certifications, and Achievements: This year I served as the Secretary on the ASID Student Chapter this year as well as a Design Scholar for the program. I also received Magna Cum Laude distinction.

Internship: I interned at Pettus Interiors. During my internship, I was able to gain so much hands-on experience working with commercial furniture. I was also able to gain experience working in CET by shadowing their designers and getting to assist on projects.

Favorite UCA IDSN Experience: My favorite experience was getting to be involved with ASID and growing so many relationships through it. I loved getting to help plan our events and see everyone come together.
Another favorite experience was our late nights in the lab together where we were able to encourage each other and get to spend time together outside of class.

What's Next: I am very excited to have accepted an interior design position at Pettus Interiors. I am very grateful for this opportunity and am looking forward to continuing to work with their team.

About Section: Hi, I’m Mary! I’m from Little Rock, AR where I grew up with my family and still live with my dog Holly and cat Este. I originally started in Accounting and it didn’t take long to realize I was in the wrong place. Interior Design has been home ever since and I’m very fortunate to have found my path here!

Where Interned: I interned with the Architectural Products team at ImageWorks, where I gained hands-on experience working with commercial furniture systems. During my time there, I collaborated with the Falkbuilt team, which introduced me to prefabricated interior construction and innovative building solutions.

Favorite Experience about UCA IDSN: My favorite experiences within the Interior Design program have been the opportunities to travel with faculty and students. I’ve had the chance to visit Chicago and Atlanta, and those trips created some of my best memories from the program.

What’s next after graduation? After graduation, I’m excited to have accepted a full-time position with ImageWorks, where I’ll continue building on my experience in commercial interior products and design.

About Section: I’m Lydia Ramsey! I’m from Vilonia, AR and come from a family who thankfully always encouraged my creativity ultimately leading me here! On days that I have some free time I enjoy company with my friends and my cat Willow. Art and design have always been a highlight in my life and I can’t wait to see where Interior Design leads me!

Awards Section: Achievements that I’m proud of during my time here include: being a multiple-semester Presidential Scholar, earning CIDA Certified projects, student leadership in ASID, ASID South Central Student Work accomplishments Spring 2025 and 2026. Soon I’ll also graduate with Magna Cum Laude and a certificate of Proficiency in Historic Preservation.

Internship Section: I’ve had the opportunity to be an Interior Design Intern at H+N, located in the heart of Conway and proudly women owned. Through this internship I had the pleasure of working alongside local architects, engineers, designers and reps to create inspiring commercial and residential spaces.

Experience Section: My biggest takeaway from my education here at UCA is to surround myself with community, connection and friends. I’ll miss the late nights with my friends in the lab and the experiences in ASID the most!

What’s next: I’m hopeful to stay centrally located here in Arkansas for the next few years in commercial design. Wherever I end up l’m excited to step into what the future holds!
