UPDATE: After 14 months the fully inoculated Caribbean Structural Systems team is officially back in the field!

Our first stop was to assist the power company of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

..and basketball gymnasiums love pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMBs)! Specifically, the clear spans in a PEMB allow for maximum flexibility for any number of athletic and cultural activities.

This particular project is for the local Catholic school in Key West, FL USA. On the exterior, it features a navy blue wainscot with white panels above. For a sleek look, the purchaser opted to paint the frames navy blue and the purlins and girts white to match.

‼️Bonus tip: don’t neglect insulation! Recreational buildings are big, tall, and have a lot of air to condition. In addition, the climate is hot and the electricity is often expensive throughout the Caribbean. CSS is happy to provide recommendations on how to properly insulate your next community or recreational building to keep operation costs within budget during the lifespan of the building.

In 2011, CSS was brought in to supply the metal building for Solomon's Fresh Markets, a supermarket in the Bahamas. Pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMBs) are a great option for large retail such as grocery stores. A PEMB’s steel rafters can span farther distances than other types of roof systems allowing for less interior columns and more flexibility for the building operator.

Why are they called Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings? The name comes from the amount of engineering done well ahead of construction. While this expedites the construction schedule, it limits a contractor’s ability to fix mistakes in the field. With that in mind, CSS made several trips to the Bahamas during design and construction to ensure this project would be a success! 🇧🇸
