🥎🚨If your pitching coach isn’t continuing to learn… your athlete is eventually going to stop growing.

That’s a bold statement, but it’s the truth.

This weekend I had the opportunity to learn from some of the brightest minds in our game, and it reminded me why I will never stop investing in my athletes by investing in myself.

🥎 Kayla Holas – Part of the USA Softball Pitching Staff, a member of the WBSC Coach Commission, and former NPF Chicago Bandits pitcher.

🥎 Ryker Chason – Auburn Softball Pitching Coach, helping develop pitchers at one of the top programs in the country.

🥎 Kerri Foster – Founder of Foster Fastpitch and one of the most respected pitching experts in our sport.

Here are a few things that really stuck with me:

✨ Get your athlete into a workout program EARLY. I’m not talking about heavy lifting. I’m talking about teaching them how to move. Body control, balance, stability, coordination, and strength are the foundation of every great athlete.

✨ Pitching is a process—not a quick fix. Every pitcher is building a pyramid. If the foundation isn’t solid, you can’t skip ahead to the next level. Great pitchers aren’t created in a few lessons… they’re built over YEARS.

✨ Stop putting pitchers in a box. There is no “perfect” pitching style that fits everyone. Every athlete is built differently, moves differently, and learns differently. My job isn’t to make every pitcher look the same—it’s to develop the athlete standing in front of me. Sometimes that means experimenting, adjusting, and even going back to the drawing board.

✨ Continuing education isn’t optional. Softball is constantly evolving. If we’re still coaching the same way we did 10 or 20 years ago simply because “that’s how it’s always been done,” we’re limiting our athletes. They deserve the most current information, the safest mechanics, and the best opportunity to succeed.

That’s why I’ll continue attending clinics, learning from the best, asking questions, and challenging myself to grow.

Because when I grow as a coach… my athletes win. 🥎💙
