Before her work, Marie Wilcox was the only speaker of Wukchumni. Today, there are at least three fluent speakers.

We celebrate the life of Che'ihmyat' (Marie Wilcox), who after 20 years of "hunting and pecking on her keyboard" to produce her language's first dictionary, walked on at 87 on Saturday, September 25th.
