2 out of 3 homes in America are underinsured? Why is this important to know?

When you look at your homeowners policy, there is a line item labeled ‘Dwelling’. The number there is based on the amount it would cost to rebuild your home. (Based on your policy you could have additional coverage, which is why it’s always a good idea to talk to your insurance agent to understand your policy.)

This is not to be confused with market value. The market value is what a consumer is willing to pay for your property.

Since the cost of labor and building materials have gone up, this means the cost to rebuild your home has likely increased…which of course means your coverage might need to increase so you are covered.

What are your next steps?
➡️Pull up your current homeowners policy
➡️Call your insurance agent and have them review it with you
➡️Ask them to run numbers based on todays costs to make sure you are covered
