A year ago I walked into a clinic to become a new patient in hopes to refil my blood pressure meds. They drew labs and sent me on my way.
2 days later while at work I received a phone call, it was the clinic, they asked me to hold for the Dr to speak with me. He came on the phone and proceeded to explain to me that my kidneys were failing and they were so bad that if I didn't go now there was a chance I wouldn't make it to the end of the day.
This begun my new crappy life. My time in the hospital was long and I spent my days being tested and having blood drawn every few hrs. I was seen by a team of nephrologists who began to explain to me that my kidneys were basiclly dead. I was officially diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure. My kidneys have zero chance of regenerating. I was told if I was lucky, I had a month to live if I didn't go on dialysis immediately. Then in the same breath, I was told even on dialysis, most people in my condition only live between 5 and 10 years. I asked for some time to talk with my family. I personally would have been fine with one more month of living my life my way and dying happy.
Eventually I decided in typical me fashion, I'd stubbornly not give up. But I decided if I was going to do this, I was going to do it the right way. So I've spent my days doing my best to be as healthy as I can while in this nightmare. Eating well, exercising as much as I can, and trying my hardest to take care of my mental health.
