Kudos to this nurse.
I did the same thing when I worked at a psychiatric hospital. My client was a Veteran, suffering from severe PTSD and depression. He had lost everything… his wife, his house, and…he was going to have to give up his dog, in order to participate in an extensive outpatient treatment program to work on the issues that contributed to his entire life imploding.
It broke my heart, and I had to intervene.
I welcomed the dog into my home for the about a month- I would pick up the dog every morning, keep him company throughout the day while my client attended outpatient treatment, and then I would meet my client at the end of every day, to bring his dog to him for the evening.
After he completed his treatment program, I invited him to have Thanksgiving dinner with my family. I often think about him and his wonderful dog… I hope they are doing well!
This man was forced to give his dog to the Humane Society due to undergoing lengthy hospital stay.
This nurse found out and immediately went to the shelter and adopted his dog.
She brings him to visit daily and will return him as soon as the man is released!❤️
