Gas Leak, 3000 Block of Pheasant Run, Village of Cottage Grove

At 8:38 AM on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Cottage Grove Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a gas leak in the area of Pheasant Run & Damascus Road in the Village of Cottage Grove.

Alliant Energy was notified while enroute, and upon arrival Cottage Grove Fire Department confirmed that contractors installing fiber optics had struck an underground gas line. In accordance with CGFD procedures, Damascus Road was shut down between Killian Drive & Morning Dove Drive, and several nearby residences were evacuated as a precaution.

Crews from Alliant Energy arrived at 9:14 AM and had the line secured by 9:37 AM.

Some residents expressed concerns due to Damascus Road being closed during this incident, blocking the neighborhoods only egress route. We want to assure the community that CGFD has multiple contingency plans had this become a larger incident. Our team participates in a rigorous monthly training program to ensure we consistently deliver a highly proficient and professional response to the community, including reviewing and discussing plans for all areas in our territory that may challenge an emergency response.

There were no injuries reported during today’s incident. We thank Cottage Grove PD and Alliant Energy for their assistance.
