Watch of the day! This week I will be featuring a different and rare Hampden trench watch every day. These Hampden cases were specifically made for military use during WWI and were manufactured to house lever set (or very rarely stem set) Hampden movements. As you can see, this particular example has a hinged front bezel indicating that it hides the lever setting mechanism below. Since the bezel needed to be hinged away in order to allow you to set the time, these watches provided another layer of protection from accidentally changing the time. This example is powered by a 1906 Molly Stark 3/0 sized movement and is complimented by a gorgeous enamel military shadow box dial. Stay tuned for tomorrow's Hampden!

Watch of the day! 1918 Elgin Military Wrist Watch. Today I have my "plain dial" elgin trench watch in a Wadsworth solid lug case. These Elgin watches were advertised heavily in 1918 as being rugged enough for military use and therefore well suited for hard outdoor activities. You could buy this plain dial version for just under $20 in 1918, which works out to around $415 in today's money.
