We came up with the idea of installing a rain chain that substitutes for your downspout that would be anchored in to a plastic planter pot with decorative rock. The planter would have a spigot installed about 8-12 inches up just below the level of the decorative rock inside the pot. We then used soker hoses and ran those through the neighboring mulch beds and hooked the hoses to the spigot in the pot. We got the sounds and sight of trickling water. These thinks are awesome and are way better looking than a downspout. As the planter filled up we used the rain water for a drip system for your gardens and landscaping. This is a very nice and cheap feature that can be added to your covered porch or back deck and also makes that low maintenance landscaping even easier because of the irrigation it produces.
