We're always proud when we're able to help preserve some of Kentucky's incredible history!
The Kentucky Derby is coming up next weekend, May 2! We partnered with Louisville's ABC affiliate, WHAS-TV (), to digitize 16mm films and 2" Quadruplex videotapes covering the centennial running of the Derby at Churchill Downs in 1974!
Do you know who won the race?

DPX files are a SMPTE standard digital file format that is popular with both Hollywood and film archives because of the way the file stores dense color information, allowing for future color grading without “baking in” color.
Scene Savers typically scans 8mm/Super8, 16mm, and 35mm films “over-scanned” to include the film’s frame edge, optical track, and sometimes even sprocket holes. This ensures pixel or sound information is preserved in the DPX master.

Introduced by Panasonic in 1995, DVCPRO is a variation of the DV format. DVCPRO can come in two flavors: the traditional Standard Definition DVCPRO and DVCPRO HD. These tapes look similar, but are quite different.
DVCPRO HD tapes and equipment face higher scarcity than standard definition DVCPRO, as the format was mainly used by professionals. While it is not “true HD” (1920x1080), its 1280x1080 resolution capabilities are 4x that of standard DVCPRO and could be upscaled to HD for better compatibility with HD equipment.

On May 20, 1927, after flying across the Atlantic, aviator Charles Lindbergh toured across the United States.
Syracuse city officials, former New York State Secretary of State Florence E.S. Knapp, Franklin Automobile Company executives, and over 30,000 civilians welcomed Lindbergh as he drove through Onondaga County and spoke at Archbold Stadium (at Syracuse University). Scene Savers transferred the films of Lindbergh's historic visit on July 28th that year as he stopped in Syracuse, NY. More information on Lindbergh's visit or to use historical film, contact the Onondaga Historical Association's Research Center (OHA).
