Let's clear up a word everyone hears but few people get explained: phishing.

Phishing is when someone sends you a message pretending to be a company or person you trust, hoping you'll hand over a password, a payment or access to an account. It usually arrives as an email or text, and it works by making you feel like you have to act right now.

A classic one is the "there's a problem with your account, log in immediately" email, with a link to a fake page that captures whatever you type.

Three quick things to watch for: pressure to act fast, a sender address that looks slightly off and any request that skips your normal way of doing things.

If a message feels off, slow down. Don't click. Go to the website directly or call a number you already trust.
