There comes a time when the most compassionate thing to do is to remove privileges and administer developmentally-appropriate discipline.
Grandpas get angry, sometimes. The safest thing to do is plan carefully to protect the vulnerable from the shrapnel, when those with the power remove Grandpa's keys, as one form of discipline.
If you think this is about politics, it may be time to review our own family trees. Grandpa is sometimes not only past his capacity to drive, but also guilty of horrific abuses of his children and grandchildren.
