FACS Department Chair Ginny Zega hosted her last Internship Program annual luncheon at St. Elijah after 11 years of dedicated leadership and service. Principal Russ Marcinek presented Zega with a commemorative plaque in recognition of her lasting impact on the program. What began under her leadership with just 50 students has grown into a thriving program serving 333 students.
Alongside Zega, Britney Stanojevic has played an instrumental role in guiding and supporting the program’s interns. Art teacher Carrie Quinn will oversee the interns next year. The event featured speeches from interns Cole Gibbs, Sage Dorsey, Lili Cuevas, and Madigan McCormick.
Zega also coordinated the preschool program for the past 17 of her 18 years at Crown Point High School. She retires next week and said she looks forward to spending time with her family on their 43-acre property in Valparaiso.

Mary Bachnak was named Advisor of the Year among all Business Professionals of America advisors in the state.
Shortly after, Bachnak also won Teacher of the Year at Crown Point High School and then Secondary Teacher of the Year for the Crown Point Community School Corporation in honor of her dedication to students and the relationships she builds with them.
“People don't care about how much you know until they know how much you care. That is every day. I wake up, and I sit on the side of my bed. I say a prayer, and when I’m finished with my prayer, I say it's time to be amazing, and it's not for me. It's for you. It's time to be amazing for you. It's time to make a connection with you. It's time to support you,” Bachnak said to senior Miles Warren, who served as BPA state president and now serves on the national committee.
