📚 Understanding the Causes of Back Pain
Back pain is one of the most common health complaints, affecting people of all ages. It can be caused by poor posture, muscle strain, herniated discs, arthritis, injuries, or even prolonged sitting and lack of physical activity.
In some cases, stress and tension can also contribute to back discomfort. Understanding the underlying cause is essential because effective treatment depends on addressing the source of the pain—not just the symptoms.
Taking care of your spine through proper posture, regular exercise, and early intervention can help prevent chronic back problems.

This anatomical chart maps out cervical radiculopathy, illustrating how compressed cervical nerve roots affect specific parts of the upper body:
C5: Impacts the biceps, causing weakness or pain in the upper arm.
C6: Radiates down to the thumb and lateral forearm.
C7: Affects the triceps muscle, as well as the middle and ring fingers.
C8: Targets the little finger and medial hand.
T1: Connects to the inner side of the hand and forearm.
By tracking these dermatomes and myotomes, clinicians can pinpoint exactly which spinal level is causing neurological symptoms.

🩻 Disc Bulge vs. Disc Herniation: What’s the Difference?
Back pain isn’t always the same—and neither are disc injuries.
A disc bulge occurs when the disc extends beyond its normal boundaries but the outer layer remains intact. This often develops gradually and may cause stiffness, mild back pain, or sometimes no symptoms at all.
A disc herniation happens when the inner portion of the disc pushes through the outer layer. This is more likely to irritate nearby nerves and can lead to:
✔️ Sharp, radiating pain
✔️ Numbness or tingling
✔️ Muscle weakness
✔️ Sciatica symptoms
The good news? Many disc conditions respond well to conservative care, including chiropractic treatment, therapeutic exercises, and lifestyle modifications.
At Oliver Chiropractic, we take the time to identify the source of your pain and create a personalized treatment plan to help you move better and feel better.
📞 Don’t ignore persistent back pain, numbness, or tingling. Let us help you get to the root cause.

Disclaimer: Not all back pain is caused by disc issues. A proper evaluation is important to determine the cause of your symptoms.

Did You Know? Your Body Is Connected by a Fascial System
Many people think pain only comes from muscles, joints, or bones—but there's another important player called fascia.
Fascia is a web-like connective tissue that surrounds and connects every muscle, bone, nerve, and organ in your body. Think of it as your body's internal "support suit."
When fascia becomes tight, restricted, or inflamed, it can create tension and discomfort in areas far away from where the problem actually started.
For example:
➡️ Tight calves can contribute to low back pain
➡️ Hip restrictions can affect shoulder movement
➡️ Neck tension can lead to headaches
These connections are called "fascial chains" or "myofascial chains"—pathways that link different parts of the body together.
That's why treating only the area that hurts doesn't always solve the problem. Finding and addressing the source of the restriction is often the key to lasting relief.
At Oliver Chiropractic, we look at how your entire body moves and functions together, not just where you're feeling pain.
