West Highland Way long distance trail stretches from near Glasgow to Fort William in Scotland. Linda and I walked this approximately 100 mile trail passing through gentle paths, ancient woodlands and rugged mountains. The landscape is unique with many lochs (lakes) dividing the terrain until it gives way to the sea in the west, called Inner Hebrides. The weather was harsh for part of the walk, but we enjoyed every minute, winding through iconic places like Loch Lomond, Rannoch Moor, and Glencoe. Fond memories…

This watercolor of a European Herring Gull was inspired by a photo I took while visiting the seaside resort town of Llandudno in Northern Wales. She posed beautifully for me as we were walking the long pier. The Irish Sea is behind and the spectacular headland in the distance is The Great Orme, where the gulls nest in colonies along the cliffs. “Orme” is the Welsh word for “sea serpent” because it has that appearance when approaching from the sea. These lovely gulls are plenteous in Llandudno, and they are not bashful. This painting takes me to a happy place.
